Community Engagement, Placemaking & Policy Framework
The Goal: To capture the voices of the community and it's designers, planners and professionals to inform, educate and inspire future developers, design professionals, and the coast's residents to use the 10 Sunshine Coast Design Principles, ensuring that all new development reflects the region’s unique “place-based” character.
The Challenge: Sunshine Coast Council needed a clear way to communicate 10 detailed Design Principles, protecting the relaxed, sub-tropical lifestyle locals value and avoiding “anywhere” development.
The Solution: Source Media created a strategic video series that translated the abstract principles into relatable, aspirational stories grounded in place. Using high-quality visuals and interviews with designers and community voices, the series demonstrated what good design looks like in practice—designing for climate with passive comfort, framing and protecting views of the coast and hinterland, and promoting resilient, adaptable places that deliver value over their whole life.
The result: An accessible tool within the broader Sunshine Coast Design Strategy that helped elevate design as an investment (not a cost), equipped residents, planners and developers with a visual guide to better outcomes, and reinforced a future-proof approach to growth that supports long-lasting built form and reduced energy reliance.

Are your videos accessible and captioned?
Yes. Captions are supplied as standard with every deliverable rather than quoted as an extra, and we produce transcripts and audio description where your accessibility obligations require them. Tell us the standard you work to and we’ll meet it.
Do you work within council procurement processes?
Regularly. We supply ABN, certificates of currency, references and supplier onboarding documentation at quote stage, and we’re used to multi-stage approvals and formal sign-off. Send through your requirements with the brief and there’ll be no delay at the paperwork stage.
Can you work to our brand and style guide?
Yes, and we’d rather you send it early. We produce inside your visual identity, tone and accessibility standards rather than delivering something that then has to be reworked to fit.
How do you handle consent and privacy?
